Why fundraise?

The pandemic is the biggest challenge we’ve faced in our 60 year history. And it’s led to us being forced to make the devastating decision to cut our 2020 research budget in half. So the truth is, we’ve never needed people like you more.

Virtual fundraising challenges like Dechox are a way to help us keep up the pace of progress. Your willpower will be funnelled into groundbreaking science and support for the people who need us most. Because despite everything else happening at the moment, heart and circulatory diseases are still the world’s biggest killers. For the sake of our mums and dads, brothers and sisters, grandparents and friends - we can’t drop the ball now.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for fundraising. Every pound will get us closer to beating heartbreak forever.

Marissa Hazell, 39, and her family took on Dechox for her son

Marissa’s son Seth, aged two, was born with a hole in the wall of his heart, known as ventricular septal defect (VSD). Thankfully, his condition was picked up on his six week check-up and Seth went on to have surgery to help correct this defect before his first birthday in September 2018. Seth’s operation was a success and he continues to go from strength to strength, however he may need further surgery later in life.

Marissa has taken on Dechox twice before. She wanted to do something for the British Heart Foundation as a way to give back after Seth’s recovery, so signed up the whole family to take part in Dechox to help raise money to fund the research that has helped saved Seth’s life.
